Aim: Review the technical performance, usability and design of 75 products and services of particular benefit to people with hearing loss and tinnitus.
Impact: More than 50 products were reviewed for the One in Seven membership magazine in more depth than originally planned. Thirty-six new items were tested for our retail arm and a few were evaluated for external companies. We also reviewed services, such as high definition television, and their relevance to people with a hearing loss.
Aim: Conduct and disseminate a major annual survey into the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing, covering all aspects of their lives. Conduct and publish significant new research into the medical and social experiences of people with tinnitus.
Impact: The annual survey continues to be highly successful, with a response rate of more than one in four. We will use the results to inform our ongoing work to improve access to public transport and employment prospects for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The new research on tinnitus has been completed and publication is imminent.

“Just to say that your product reviews have changed my life! For the first time I can listen clearly with the recommended Samsung Mp3 player and the earhooks. Although music is just noise to my limited hearing, I do enjoy listening to the BBC podcasts. It is as clear as someone standing next to me! Obviously as I'm deaf to my surroundings I have to be observant of any likely danger when outside, but hey, that's the case anyway!

I know now that if it's good enough for your user panel it's good enough for me – I'm now looking forward to the Sonido.”
