Impact Report 2010

Aims and Impacts

  • To review and develop our existing children and young people's service in Wales

We supported 46 clients through our young people's service in south Wales.

  • To develop further our relationship with NDCS (The National Deaf Children's Society)

In Wales we worked closely with NDCS on developing future services for young people, and in shaping new mental health services.
In Scotland we continued our excellent working relationship with NDCS Scotland through joint submissions to consultations, inquiries and bills at the Scottish parliament, and joint meetings with ministers and civil servants.

  • To campaign for an NHS hearing screening programme for everyone who could benefit

We collected over 20,000 signatures for our petition to apply political pressure for a hearing screening programme, and many MPs are positive about the idea.
We are working with a group of professionals in Scotland and Wales to put together a funding bid for trials of a national hearing screening programme.
We received free advertising from M&C Saatchi to promote hearing screening. The groundbreaking advertisement won two awards and helped to raise awareness.
We brought together a group of professionals to discuss how to implement trials of a national hearing screening programme.
We are conducting social research into the prevalence of hearing loss in the UK to provide the evidence base for the hearing screening campaign.
    See our impact in Scotland.

  • To campaign for accessible audiology services in local communities

RNID Cymru worked with health boards in Wales to audit the quality of audiology services across the country.
