- Aim: To provide life skills and learning support for young
adults aged 16 to 30 who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Wales reduces isolation and improves self-confidence in young adults who
are deaf or hard of hearing. It enables them to progress from dependent
to independent living by making their own decisions about their futures,
managing their own home lives and social activities, and maintaining good
physical health. It also enables them to develop and advance their careers
by joining training courses, attending structured learning programmes,
taking up volunteering and seeking new employment opportunities.
Funded by the Big Lottery and Barclays, we exceeded our first year target by supporting 21 young adults (our target was 17) on a one-to-one basis. We also provided basic information, advice and signposting to 79 clients, more than half (40) of whom were local to the area.

- Aim: To enable people who are deaf or hard of hearing to
make informed decisions about their lives.
Nod: Galluogi pobl sy'n fyddar neu'n drwm eu clyw i wneud penderfyniadau hyddysg ynglŷn â'u bywydau. - Impact: We provide valuable
information to people who have hearing loss or tinnitus, or both, and
to relevant organisations across Wales to provide as many people as possible
with information about the support available to them.
Our Welsh Information Officers continue to develop valuable new partnerships with networks such as food co-operatives, hard of hearing groups and Women's Institutes, many of which are in rural, isolated or disadvantaged areas. The team made contact with more than 7,000 people through outreach events and answered 1,343 requests for information.

- Aim: To provide high-quality information and aftercare
services for people who wear hearing aids.
Nod: Rhoi gwybodaeth o safon uchel a darparu gwasanaethau ôl-ofal i bobl sy'n defnyddio cymhorthion clyw. - Impact: We have begun delivery
of a pilot Hear to Help project, running in partnership with North Wales
NHS Trust East Region Audiology department. The scheme follows a model
similar to those of Northern Ireland and Scotland. It also aims to produce
a 'toolkit' for audiology departments while simultaneously influencing
both local and national (devolved) government to routinely provide this
support.
Effaith: Rydym wedi cychwyn prosiect peilot Gair i Glust, sy'n cael ei redeg mewn partneriaeth ag Adran Awdioleg Rhanbarth Dwyreiniol Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Gogledd Cymru. people who are deaf.
Nod: Gweithio tuag at well gwasanaethau iechyd meddwl ar gyfer pobl fyddar. - Impact: We are working with
NDCS, BDA, Wales Council for Deaf People, Sense, Deafblind Cymru and Mind
Cymru to improve mental health services in Wales for people who are deaf.
The Welsh Assembly Government has now agreed to hold a workshop day to
develop an action plan to address the lack of services in Wales.

- Aim: To continue our campaign to ensure NHS waiting times
for patients needing hearing aids are reduced.

In Wales, the target waiting time for an audiology referral is 14 weeks. Just over three-quarters of patients have their aids updated within that target time, but the remaining patients are currently waiting up to 24 weeks.
RNID Cymru is working with the Welsh Assembly Government to monitor this and to address unacceptable waiting times for existing patients waiting for updated hearing aids and so help improve the quality of lives through quicker support for hearing loss.

- Aim: To improve the quality of and access to audiology
services.

the Health Minister Edwina Hart on introducing quality standards for audiology
in Wales which will ensure a more responsive and personalised service
for patients.

- Aim: To change the attitude and engagement of service providing
organisations to people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Nod: Newid agwedd ac ymgysylltiad sefydliadau sy'n darparu gwasanaethau i bobl sy'n fyddar neu'n drwm eu clyw. - Impact: RNID Cymru is working
with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and RNIB to review NHS services and
develop healthcare standards. The work has involved workshops with deaf
and blind patients on what improvements they would like to see in the
NHS.
